I don’t remember a time when I wasn’t “making things” – cutting and gluing paper, drawing and coloring, sewing, making signs and posters for school projects. When I entered 7th grade I was speechless to learn that I could now go to art class every day!
When it came time to attend college, I opted for my other great passion – nursing. After more than 30 years as a critical care nurse and educator, I am now retired and enjoying “creative pursuits” every day!
My love of art, my need for creative pursuits, has never diminished. When my daughters went to college, so did I, receiving a degree in painting and printmaking from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG). What a joy it was to once again go to art class every day!
Growing up in east Tennessee and central Alabama, I was surrounded by beautiful mountains and lush rural landscapes. When I was 14 years old I saw the ocean and experienced the beach for the first time – and it was love at first sight. These environments seem to find their way into most of my work whether that work be somewhat representative or totally abstract.
As I did as a child, I continue to work in several different mediums – all with the same goal – to express my joy in and awe of our beautiful world.
