paint
My first art teacher, Mrs. Davis, showed me how to mix colors with tempra paint, then gave me a tin of watercolors and “special” watercolor paper. That same year my father gave me a set of oil paints and I was hooked on painting. Later art teachers encouraged me to explore paper collage and relief printmaking.
For many years watercolor was my paint of choice. I marveled (and still do) at the often unpredictable results of mixing pigment and water. Later I was reintroduced to oil paint which allowed me to further explore color. Color is generally the focus of my work. For me nothing is more exciting in art than the rich colors of Wolf Kahn’s pastel paintings or the color field explorations of Rothko.
